Indulging In The Austrian Delicacies

Located in the heart of Europe, Austria is a cultural gem, combining rich heritage and historical significance, with outstanding landscapes and refreshing nature, to stunning architecture with profound imperial impact.

All in all, there are multiple reasons why someone might decide to visit the so-called “City of Music” – a nickname which will be explained later on. Regardless of which the initial reason for landing was, it is impossible to resist exploring its other aspects, and finally fall in love with all of them.

The most renowned and tourist-attracting cities are Vienna, the capital (and if you’ve watched the movie “Before Sunrise” we bet you already have a crush on the city), Graz, Salzburg, Linz, and Innsbruck. Whichever of them you decide to visit, we recommend doing it via the railway. But what exactly is on the must-do list, to feel the Austrian vibe at its maximum level?

To Taste

Even if it’s your first time in the country, chances are that you have already tasted the most traditional dishes, as they are widespread. The difference is you now get the chance to try the authentic ones. On top of all stands the iconic Wiener Schnitzel.

This worldwide-known comfort food is actually an Austrian one, and there is no comparison to any you might have tried before. Then, we have two dessert dishes. As a chocolate lover, it is necessary to treat yourself to a piece of Sachertorte, the most delicious chocolate cake you ever tasted with a fruity intervention. And talking about fruits, we could not but mention the mouth-watering Apfelstrudel, the thin, flaky pastry dough, filled with spiced apples, raisins, and breadcrumbs.

To Listen To

Vienna

Previously, we referred to Vienna as the “City of Music”, and now it’s the time to give an explanation. This nickname deprives us of the fact that Vienna was the place where four very important for the history of classical music composers, lived and created masterpieces. More specifically, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Strauss.

The Vienna State Opera and The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra host exceptional performances, attracting worldwide visitors. Seize the opportunity to enjoy a grander show. Events run through all year, although the Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert, is a completely majestic one.

To Experience

Strolling around and attending events in a foreign country is definitely refreshing and the content might vary, although it’s quite similar to what we usually do in our everyday lives. Especially in Austria, where the opportunities given to come in touch with nature and experience it through outdoor activities, exceed any expectations and surprise even the most demanding visitor.

Combine a cultural exploration in the area of Tyrol with a visit or a short stay at Lech Ski Resort, or go directly to the “slope conquering” part using a Ski Transfer service by Erna Low. Show some trust, the view is mind-blowing.

To Admire

All pre-mentioned Austrian cities have their own architectural and cultural landmarks, with Vienna of course, having a higher amount of them.

The neo-Gothic New Cathedral of Linz, the Mirabell Palace and Gardens in Salzburg, the Golden Roof of Innsbruck, the whole Graz Old Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and finally the Rathaus and Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. Bonus Tip: Visit Vienna’s Belvedere Museum, for a close look at the prototype of Gustav’s Klimt painting “The Kiss”
